I was thrilled last weekend when my friend snagged some discount Chicago tickets—I have wanted to experience ‘London’s sexiest musical’ for ages.
Contrary to the widely held sentiment among theatregoers that long-running West End musicals can become overpriced tourists traps, I was highly impressed: I definitely got my money’s worth. I know that musical backwards and forwards—the songs, the scenes, and even the first two minutes of the opening dance number (sad, I know)—and I was on the edge of my seat for the entire show.
The actors’ comic timings were fresh, surprising and well-executed, the dancers were amazing, and the leads nailed their songs (‘Mr. Cellophane’, sung by Victor McGuire as ‘Amos Hart’, was perfect, as far as I’m concerned!)
But you must act fast: apparently, you can only catch Kelly Price’s redhead rendition of ‘Roxie Hart’ for a few more days. The fiery ginger actress, known for her former appearances alongside Patrick Swayze in Guys and Dolls and as ‘Sophie’ in Mama Mia!, has been standing in for Suzanne Shaw and will leave the show after her final performance on Saturday night!
So go on—do it. Get your Chicago West End tickets here.
