Where to get the best travel deals this January
In response to the credit crunch and the current recession the travel industry has now followed the lead of the high street and gone sale crazy. The discounts offered aren’t quite as strong as the ones offered in the high street, but there are still some great flight, hotel and package holiday bargains to be had. Read on for our guide to the best travel deals this January. Save as much money as you can on flights and hotels and then come back to isango! to spend the savings on the activities and experiences that make your holiday truly memorable.
So where do I find the best travel deals?
The airlines were the first to show their hand with British Airways dropping their prices on Christmas Eve with New York from £259 as an example fare. Virgin responded swiftly to BA’s price drop by undercutting them by £1. Ryanair have 1 million seats for sale at £15 but you have to book by 5th January. Easyjet are pushing Summer travel with their “Book summer early, save big” promotion ( Example deals – Larnaca from £39.99, Naples from £31.99).
The Tour Operator sales typically started on Boxing Day. Thomas Cook and TUI (Thomson), the big 2 tour operators have discounted selected holidays significantly, e.g. 7 nights in Florida with Airtours (part of Thomas Cook) from £589 per person (32% discount), 14 nights in Florida with Direct Holidays (part of Thomas Cook) from £1454 per person (22% discount). There are also blanket discounts on all products with Thomas Cook offering 10% discount on everything booked before February 16th and Thomson giving an equivalent £200 on holidays costing over £2000, £150 on those over £1500, and £100 on those over £1000.
The online travel agents kicked their sales off slightly later with Lastminute’s sale starting on the 27thand offering up to 75% off. The biggest bargains there appear to be on theatre tickets and shows, with their travel deals just passing on the airline and tour operator discounts highlighted above. Expedia went out with their “Turn any budget into a break” sales on the 29th offering 40% of selected hotels, with holidays starting at £106 (Example deals - Las Vegas 7 night holiday from £385, Rome 3 night holiday from £142). They are also including other hooks with a £50 boots voucher and 3000 nectar points when you book a holiday. Opodo launched its Golden January sale and Ebookers launched Great Take Offs (Example deals – Algarve, 5 nights from £165) on the 29th.
Other sales worth checking out; Hilton International has just launched its January sale cutting up to 50% off weekend stays in over 220 hotels in 45+ countries. Kuoni has launched its biggest ever sale offering up to 30% discount (Example deals – Africa from £599 save £350).

Hi Todd, that does sound like a good travel deal if you can get it. I personally wouldn’t have the patience to keep checking the site to find the 15mins when the prices drop.
