One of the key dates on the European long-distance running circuit, the Rome Marathon grows in stature year on year and is seen by many as being in the same league as the London and Berlin events.
The course passes by some of the most famous sights that the city has to offer and represents a great way for visitors on Rome tours to take in several key attractions.
Among the spectacular backdrops to this challenging race are such well-known sights as the Colosseum, St Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican City.
Youngsters and those who don’t fancy trotting around the full distance can take part in the shorter Fun Run event, which is still pretty testing but more accessible to less experienced runners.
While the race itself happens on the Sunday (March 22nd), the whole weekend is given over to related events and celebrations – with perhaps even more pasta consumed the night before that at the London event!
