Best Places to Celebrate St Patrick’s Day- Boston, Dublin and London

Beannachtai na Feile Padraig! Happy St Patrick’s Day!

Like millions of people all over the world, you too can be Irish for the day on March 17 – St Patrick’s Day. Sport a huge green hat, paint a shamrock on your face, dress up as a leprechaun, and down a few pints of Guinness. It’s all part of the fun wherever folks claim Irish ancestry.

So where are the best places for St Patrick’s Day celebrations? There are plenty to choose from, but three of the best are Boston, Dublin and London.

Celebrate St Patrick’s Day in Boston

Boston claims to be the most Irish city in the US and was where the first St Patrick’s Day Parade was held, in 1761. The big South Boston Parade was on Sunday 15 March but, if you missed that, there are other parades around Boston up to 22 March. A host of Irish music and other cultural activities are also happening in the city, so check them out.

If you visit Boston for the celebrations, don’t miss the chance to see the fantastic sights this great city has to offer. The convenient Go Boston Card gives you discounted access to over 70 top attractions.

Dublin’s St Patrick’s Day Parade

What could be better than spending the special Irish day in Ireland’s stunning capital? The city promises ‘the biggest and best Parade in the world’ today – 17 March.  For two hours Dublin’s city centre will explode in a glorious extravaganza of color and music as the great carnival dances and marches its way through the streets.

When the fun’s over, explore the beautiful city with a totally flexible Dublin Hop On Hop Off Tour.

With your 24-hour pass for unlimited use of Dublin’s hop-on hop-off open-top bus service, you can choose exactly what you want to see. From the gothic splendors of St Patrick’s Cathedral, to the secrets of whiskey -making at the Old Jameson Distillery, it’s your call.

Be Irish in London on St Patrick’s Day

Forget economic gloom, London’s pulling the stops out for St Patrick’s Day 2009 in a program which began on 6 March and continues till 22 March. There’s Irish music and dance, theater, comedy, culture and crafts. The best place to party today is surely a lively Irish pub. Waxy O’Conner’s, near Leicester Square, is a great choice.

And, while you’re in town, why not enjoy the sights with a Total London Sightseeing, Thames Cruise, Changing of the Guard and the London Eye package? You’ll experience the best attractions and have the time of your life!
