Experiencing the Medieval Banquet in London

Freshly arrived to the U.K., one of the first opportunities of a night out in London for me was to go to the Medieval Banquet.

I went there with 5 colleagues, and we had the surprise of spending a very nice evening. Indeed, none of us already experimented such a thing to do in London

As we were arriving to this medieval show, two knights and the Queen herself welcomed us and lead us to our table. And that’s only the beginning…

A royal meal

Before starting the four-course meal, King Henry VIII introduced his Court and got ready to this royal feast: songs and dances all along the medieval dinner.

Our own wench was there to take good care of the 6 of us, answering all our questions, about the food of course and also the different parts of the evening.

For sure we did not enjoy a gourmet dinner: the starter is mainly composed of paté and salad, and then our lovely wench brought us some medieval soup, followed by a great roasted chicken and a nice strawberry flan. We also could enjoy unlimited drinks (beer and wines), which is not bad at all!

One great thing is that all dishes are presented in a central platter, so that we can all enjoy the food and help ourselves.

Having fun with King Henry VIII

All along the medieval banquet, and between each course, the Court and our wench kept on cheering us on dancing, singing, applauding (medieval-style for sure).

Maybe 5 or 6 times during this night out in London, we shared a toast with all the guests and we also had the privilege to attend a knights’ joust, we enjoyed a show with a contortionist girl and even jugglers.

As the evening and the show were ending, my friends and I thought it was time to go back home, but no: the King and the Court keep on toasting one last time, and afterwards offered us the possibility to stay and enjoy some more “modern” music. The bar stayed open so we could order drinks for the end of this historic night.

Finally, we all were surprised to spend such a good night at the Medieval Banquet in London. Personally, I hate everything related to history and royalty, and I have to say that this evening was great, I really enjoyed it, so as my colleagues!
