Berlin gets set for an evening of motorcycle thrills

0

Pulses will be set racing at the FIM FMX World Championships – Night of the Jumps in Berlin on March 21st and 22nd.

The O2 World in the German capital will be the venue for this fast and frenetic event, which will see the world’s most daring motorcycle stunt riders compete for the coveted title.

Over the course of the event each contestant will attempt to outshine their rivals with death-defying aerial stunts as they soar into the air from the specially-constructed jump.

This kind of freestyle riding is growing in popularity all over Europe, with many fans viewing it as a fitting summertime alternative to the kind of ‘big air’ contests taking place in mountain resorts during the winter.

Alongside the main attraction there will also be an array of other stunts and shows, glamorous pit girls and pyrotechnics to keep the huge crowd entertained.

Visitors on Berlin tours should definitely grab some tickets as this high-adrenaline sporting event is not to be missed.

Motorcross thrills and spills in Berlin

0

An essential event for fans of motorbikes and death-defying stunts heads to Berlin next Spring.

From March 21st to 22nd, the O2 World in the German capital will host the FIM FMX World Championships – Night of the Jumps.

The event will see some of the best freestyle motorcross riders compete in front of a baying crowd who, while not actually wanting to see anyone hurt themselves, wouldn’t mind the odd ‘spill’ thrown in with all the thrills on offer.

Competitors will try to outdo each other with their skill and courage to emerge as world champion – there really is no greater test for these daring young riders.

A highlight of the competition will be the Big Air that will see which plucky sort can make the largest jump of night. Fans will be well aware that at a competition of this calibre records could be broken, potentially bettering the 11 metre leap performed by Mathieu Rebeaud at an event in Oberhausen.

This key stop on the sport’s world tour is sure to thrill locals and visitors alike.

Berlin is home to some of Germany’s finest cultural attractions as well as top sport franchises like football team Hertha Berlin.

New Year”s resolutions tested to the limit in Berlin

0

For most people New Year”s Day consists of nothing more energetic than rolling out of bed at around lunchtime to watch the Sound of Music on television.

But for many residents of the German capital Berlin, the first day of the year is an opportunity to go for a run around some freezing streets, starting by the famous Brandenburg Gate in the heart of the city.

Each January 1st, the Berlin New Year Run sees plucky locals brave the winter air and their rotten hangovers to run around the four kilometre course, getting themselves in the spirit for the forthcoming year.

The race is seen as the second part of an event which straddles the passing of one year into the next, as even more runners gather elsewhere in the city at the Mommsenstadion to compete in the New Year”s Eve run, with competitors donning all manner of colourful costumes.

Long Night of the Museums in Berlin

0

00am On the night of August 30th, visitors to Berlin museums will be able to see exhibitions well into the wee hours as part of the 2008 Long Night of Museums.

Access to exhibitions across a selection of venues will be granted from 18:00 to 2:00.

More than 100 museums are set to take part in the event, which runs twice a year in January and August.

Visitors can purchase one ticket for the evening, which provides them with access to every museum taking part.

This year”s theme is Castles, Parks and Gardens, meaning that participating venues are required to showcase collections and exhibitions in keeping with the topic.

In addition to the permanent exhibitions, various institutions offer concerts, readings, dance and theatre shows, special tours and exotic menus to see visitors through to the early hours.

The organisers add that due to the variety of Berlin”s museums and the collections they have to offer, tourists and non-German speakers can enjoy the Long Night of Museums just as much as locals.

Culture and Sightseeing – City Tours – Whichever city you are in these tours will help to ensure you do not miss a thing.
