The Burj Dubai tower, the tallest building in the world, opened today in Dubai. Here you can find interesting Burj Dubai facts and figures in one place.

  • Burj Dubai has actually changed name to Burj Khalifa on its opening day on Jan 4th, 2009;
  • The Burj Dubai is  828 meters or 2,717 ft tall, making it the tallest building in the world;
  • It is more than twice as high as the Paris Eiffel Tower;
  • The Burj Dubai has 164 stories, the largest number of stories in the world;
  • It also has the fastest elevators in the world at 60 km/h (40 mph), taking less than 60 seconds to 124th floor and 2 minutes to the top. There are 57 elevators.
  • The Burj Dubai opening ceremony boasted the highest fireworks in the world;
  • It cost about 1B EUR (1.5B US$, Dh 5.5B);
  • Visitor tickest to the Burj Dubai are priced at Dh100 to go up to 124th floor (Dh75 kids, Dh210 VIP pass);
  • The Burj Dubai has 500k square meters of living space sold at 30,000 EUR (40,000$) per square meter ($4,000 per sq ft);
  • Despite the price, the Burj Dubai is mostly presold with only 26% vacant on its opening day;
  • The Burj Dubai boasts the world’s highest swimming pool on level 76 and the world’s highest mosque on level 158;
  • It only took 5 years of construction;
  • It was build by Samsung Engineering Construction of Korea;
  • The first Armani hotel will open in march 2009 on levels 38 and 39.

High School Musical live on stage in Dubai

High School Musical has won Emmy awardsFrom July 23rd to 26th, Disney”s smash-hit film musical comes to Dubai.

Playing at the Centrepoint Theatre, the High School Musical sees kids from East High stopping at nothing to distract basketball jock Troy and math-whiz Gabrielle from getting the lead roles in the school musical.

Tickets cost between Dh149 and Dh199 (£20 to £27), and performances will be held at 14:30 and 19:30.

The musical will take place for a total of seven shows.

High School Musical on screen started life on the Disney Channel in January 2006, and won a couple of Emmy awards.

A sequel (High School Musical 2) appeared 18 months later, with two more coming soon.

The stage version is based on the first film, with its script by Peter Barsocchini adapted by David Simpatico. It includes all the songs from the film – of which Breaking Free and We”re All in this Together were hit singles – as well as two new songs.

Dubai may become world’s next fashion capital

Isla Moda will stage fashion showsOne of the world’s leading fashion designers has said that Dubai could become the potential fashion capital of the world.

Karl Lagerfield has signed up with Dubai Infinity Holdings (DIH) to help design Isla Moda – Fashion Island – which is to include haute couture boutiques, villas and a 250-room luxury hotel with themed rooms.

The fashion icon said: “Dubai is a fashion bud on the verge of blossoming into the next fashion hub of the world … Isla Moda has tremendous potential to be the style icon of the future and I intend on driving the island to high style stardom.”

Isla Moda will also stage fashion shows and act as a meeting place for the fashion industry’s top names.

Samira Abdulrazzak, chief executive of DIH, said: “This is a very important phase in the development and begins a new chapter for fashion in Dubai.”
