Tour the Fashion Week cities.

1

fashion-weekFashion is a funny business as most people are preparing for the cold of the coming winter, fashionistas around the world are getting excited about what we should be wearing spring/summer 2012. From September – October you can travel around the world to make sure you are on trend next year. Should you get a free minute in between shows, in between hobnobbing with Wintour and singing karaoke with Valentino, we have found you some tours in each city.

New York 9-15 Sept
sex-and-the-city-hotspots_new-york_13527_4Alright, so you are probably already there. You have been dazzled by Victoria Beckham’s collection and now you are ready to follow in the footsteps of television’s biggest fashionista: Carrie Bradshaw.
Go on a Sex and the City tour where you will hit all of the girls’ favourite spots.  You’ll visit the best place for Cosmopolitans, the shop where Charlotte bought her Rabbit,  the place where Carrie got her divine Jimmy Choo’s and you will taste a cupcake from the famous Magnolia bakery.

London 16-21 Sept
designer-shopschelsea_4642_1Once you have arrived in London you’ll be happy to learn that the Westfield shopping centre in Stratford will have opened: it is the largest shopping centre in Europe.
For the traditionalist among us, we recommend a private walking tour through Chelsea and Kensington.  Stroll among the designer shops and museums with a knowledgeable guide who can tell you about the rich history and famous faces of this exclusive area. This fashionable part of London is also a favourite of Britain’s hottest fashionistas: Kate aka the Duchess of Cambridge and her sister Pippa Middleton.

flea-market_paris_4177_3Paris 29 Sept – 06 Oct
Ah Paris! The city of chic. A man or woman of fashion should live in a fashionable home, so we offer you a Paris tour of one of the largest antique markets of Europe.

You will be accompanied with an expert guide who will a) speak French and English and b) have knowledge of antiques. So whether you are a layman or a more experienced buyer of antique you have the option of the guide to assist you with negotiations.

It promises to be a memorable Fashion week in Tokyo as it will be the first one since shows earlier this year were cancelled after the earthquake in March. Organisers have confirmed Paul Smith’s attendance with which he’ll be celebrating his business success.

As the early bird catches the worm, get up early and join a morning sightseeing tour in Tokyo. An English-speaking guide will take you through the Japanese capital and introduce you to the riches of this wonderful city.  You will see the stunning panoramas of the modern city, yet also delve deeper to discover the traditional side of this historic city.

‘Sex and the City’ Madness Continues with DVD Release

0

Just when I thought the Sex and the City madness had subsided, another wave of Manolo Blahnik euphoria swept over New York City last week at the ‘Sex and the City: The Movie’ Extended Cut DVD launch, which was, apparently, about as posh and exclusive as a ‘real’ film premiere - caviar, carpet, celebrities and all.

This meant I could finally see the film for the first time (wasn’t really up for the cinema queues at the time of release).  Now, as always, I am grateful to Sarah Jessica Parker for giving my name some added sex appeal (thanks!), but I’m not so sure about the strange, stretched out plot of her latest cinematic endeavor.  It was 2 1/2 hours long!  Great for a girls’ night in, I suppose, but I can’t justify owning it (I did, however, own the freebie, giant SATC Galaxy chocolate bar, awarded to my by Blockbuster for my release-day rental…)

I’m really not the best person to talk to about this era-defining series.  My colleagues, however, are big fans and have informed me that our On Location: Sex and the City Tour is well worth it.  Check out the list of famous stops here.

So, if you still haven’t had your fill—if the six-year TV series and loooooong  capstone movie weren’t enough—maybe the behind-the-scenes Sex and the City Tour is your ticket.

Let us know how it goes!

New musicals to hit Broadway next year

0

Dolly Parton starred in the original film and has penned songs for the musicalA musical based on the 1980 film Nine to Five is set to open on Broadway on April 23rd next year, following a short run in Los Angeles this September.

Country star Dolly Parton - who received an Oscar for the title song - starred in the original film with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.

The musical, about three colleagues who plot to turn the tables on their sexist, lying boss, includes Parton’’s original score as well as 20 new songs.

Nine to Five will star The West Wing’’s Allison Janney in Tomlin’’s role, Stephanie J Block in Fonda’’s part and Megan Hilty as Parton’’s sexy executive secretary. Marc Kudisch plays their bigoted boss.

Also moving to Broadway next year is Mary Stuart, Friedrich Schiller’’s history play that was a recent hit in London.

Variety magazine reported that the show, directed by Phyllida Lloyd, will arrive next spring at a yet to be named theatre with its stars, Janet McTeer and Harriet Walter.

New York – From the dizzy heights of the Empire State Building to the serene Central Park New York has it all!

Thank You, Sex and the City

1

FIRST OF ALL, I want to thank Sarah Jessica Parker (and Candace Bushnell) for making my name so trendy and cool. I am sure all of the (real!) Carries and Aidans out there can relate: we are now the (tragic!) victims of subconscious associations with sex, good looks and high fashion.

It’s amazing, the responses I get when I introduce myself to people—it’s almost like the general public has been hypnotized by SJP’s flouncy skirts and witty voiceover rants.

When I was a little girl, I never, ever imagined that when I grew up, a notable percentage of my introductory handshakes would involve the word “sex.” Instead, I was brainstorming ways to resolve the ongoing confusion in my family home: I was named after my dad (whose mother was incidentally a Cary Grant fan).

This may sound endearing—a baby girl named after her father—but picture yourself as an awkward preteen. What would you do if all incoming calls from potential suitors were filtered by your goofy dad, who refused to acknowledge the word “boyfriend” as a part of the English language?

“Yes, speaking” he would chirp into the receiver; “of couse this is Cary. Who did you think…?”

And the infamous: “oh, I see…you must be looking for Little Carrie. This is Big Cary. Why didn’t you say something sooner?”

(You’d probably think about changing your name to “Boyfriend,” too…)

SECONDLY, I’d like to thank the producers of the beloved Sex and the City Movie for spreading the buzz overseas, thus securing my sex appeal abroad. You even followed me to London with your glamourous international premiere, which was amazing! PICTURES HERE.

Right. It was actually terrible—I couldn’t see a thing, and I think that I experienced the second most claustrophobic moment of my life (first being Mardi Gras ’03) when I was trying to exit through one of the side streets. That was the last movie premiere I’ll go to in Leicester Square, or maybe anywhere…ever.

I applaud those who braved the cinema queues for the film’s 28 May opening night in London…I really do. I just might have to settle for the reviews (and a few good photos of Carrie’s wedding dress, of course.)

LASTLY, I would like to thank my co-worker Daniele for suggesting, to the sheer delight of the girls in my office ( - not!), that we be featured in the recent “Sex in Many Cities” Newsletter (which went out to over 600,000 people) as corporate counterparts to characters Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda.

For all of you die hard fans, the newsletter, which can be viewed here, discusses several behind-the-scenes and personalized Sex and the City Tours.

Sex and the City, you sure do make life interesting!

Let the Carrie Bradshaw Madness continue.
